Roger Johnson Jr

Roger A. Johnson Jr. is a powerful example of transformation, resilience, and leadership. Raised in New Haven’s Dwight/Kensington neighborhood during a period of intense violence and hardship, Roger faced significant challenges early in life that led to his incarceration as a teenager. During that time, he underwent a profound personal transformation through spiritual growth and mentorship, particularly after the loss of his father. Following his release, Roger confronted further adversity including the death of his mother but ultimately chose a new path through EMERGE Connecticut, a reentry program that would help define his future. Today, as a Foreman at EMERGE Connecticut, Roger has become a pillar of his community. He has mentored hundreds of returning citizens, spoken on national stages, and contributed to neighborhood revitalization projects by planting trees, cleaning streets, and rehabilitating abandoned homes. His numerous awards and certifications, including the African Heritage Collection Mentor Award and Mental Health First Aid Training, reflect both his commitment to growth and the profound impact of his work. Roger’s story embodies the spirit of hope, service, and change.
